Hi there. I haven't posted in forever because I gave birth to our son in September and have been busy but I thought I would share some geeky things we have been up to. Our now 3 month old son is getting for Christmas a tribble, a chewie plush, and a WOW onesie. We also just finished up our pregnancy project which was to watch the entire Buffy series via netflix. We are loving being geeky parents... and parents period for that matter. I think though our geekiest Christmas thing this year was that I wrote our own version of the 12 Days of Christmas. I thought I would share. 12 star trek ornaments 11 hugs for Aleks 10 cups of cocoa 9 dranei dancing 8 new video games 7 hijinks cartoons 6 star wars movies 5 big ol kisses 4 treats for Echo 3 treats for Odin 2 wrapped presents 1 cute little baby Here is a pic of our very cute son. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Hello fellow geeky parents! I'm 33 with two kids 13 (soon to be 14) and 11. I'm a geek of many ways, but I'll try to keep this somewhat brief and with many links... I'm into table-top rpgs, and just successfully ran my first rpg with kids as the GM (we used the PDQ system.) As a homeschooling mom, I used it as a Creative Writing curriculum for all the kids involved. The first plot line ended, but they voted to continue with the same characters in the new year. You can check that out here: http://sites.google.com/site/warblingswallowadventure I enjoy going to Cons, and have performed at a few as a musician. Here's me at ConnectiCon singing "Two Dimensional Love"(my daughter was sitting in the front row all smiles) I write songs that deal with fantasy/anime themes. You can check that stuff out here: http://www.myspace.com/rebeccaangeland here http://www.youtube.com/user/fw5blue#p/u/3/jK-na2lNYskIf you check around my youtube channel, you'll see I put my kids in my movies as well. I enjoy anime: Bleach, Howl's Moving Castle, Wolf's Rain, etc. And Manga too. Dramacon (by a non-Japanese person-gasp!) is adorable. My kids are very into manga, and my son started reading that way. Both my kids are writing their own comic books. Here is my daughter's: http://sites.google.com/site/waterliliangel/-do-you-see-me-comicAnd books with fantasy (not so much sci-fi) are my thing: Lies of Locke Lamora, Dresden Files, Sookie Stackhouse, etc. I never grew up with video games and we don't own any. My kids certainly play them at friend's houses, but it's not a part of our lives. Although they did take a video game creation camp this summer and made some cool stuff using the program Scratch. (I taught the second half of the course with electronic music that the kids then put as their music for their games.) Happy to be here:)

My niece is being gradually introduced to geeky things. Her parents are more of the Nascar Republican types but their children are showing great potential! She likes Magic the Gathering and she has played D&D a bit and enjoyed it. She is asking for geeky book suggestions that are NOT comic books. She is 12 years old and doesn't like "scary" things. any suggestions?

A while back someone told me about a book trading website that you could go on and send people your old books and in return would get point that you could use for other books. Does anyone know what this is? I've found a few sites that claim that but I'm wondering if there is one "legitimate" site and the rest are fakes, or if there's just a lot of copycats out there. Thanks for any help. Also, does anyone know if Ebay is still going strong? Just looking at the website I see there is still plenty of stuff for sale, but is stuff selling as much as it once was? (not, is it selling for as much, that I know has changed. But are items still selling fairly regular if it's not total crap?) Umm, thanks again. I know these aren't very parenty questions. I promise my next post will have pictures of the Lotus showing off her new shoes! mood: awake music: The heater humming along |

To whom it may concern, Hi, my name is Shane. I've started a community, jrpgs_and_wrpgs, dedicated to the discussion of computer and console role-playing games, both of Japanese and Western origin. This is a really niche genre, and a lot of people who play these games prefer to play mainly these games exclusively. Due to the nature of these games, they can be quite addictive, engrossing, and the object of much obsession. Furthermore, there is no community on LiveJournal dedicated strictly to them. Almost all "RPG communities" on LiveJournal are fan fiction exercises, 'RPing,' collections of Final Fantasy icons, or general fangirl/boyism around a single franchise. There is no real discussion about these games going on, and there very well could and should be. This community is yet a seed, but if you like the idea, I encourage you to join, to encourage all your friends who would like it to join, and for all of us to contribute RPG related reading and discussion. That there is nothing like this currently on LJ is good reason that it could be successful, and it will be if we want it to be. I've been on LJ consistently since 2002, so your moderator will be here to stay, as will this community with your help. Furthermore, I can promise you that I am no control freak, will only mandate enough to keep order and productivity in the community, and will otherwise not be a tight ass, anal retentive fascist with a bunch of silly rules and a god complex. So, if you play JRPGs or WRPGs, please come on over, join, and start posting immediately about whatever RPG-related business your heart desires. I'm eager to find my peers in this. xoxo, Shane (to be cross posted)

Hello all! 36 year old Mom of four: nine yo son, ten yo step son, and 11 month old twin girls. I'm of course what is usually termed a geek. Warcraft/old school DnD, Tolkein, Pratchett, Gaiman, Lucas, Rodenberry, comics. Movie costume re-creation (I used to go to ren faires then I married an English bloke and moved here, so it makes it pretty much moot. :)Oh, have many other geekdoms, and am married to a Dr Who freak. :D I also like to cook, sew, create things, photograph things, and write about all of the above. I'm hopefully training my kids to be open minded about "labels" but they know I consider myself a Geek and am proud of it. The older boys love many of the same things I do, so that's lucky! Anyway, nice to meet you all!
